Info/City States: The City beyond the State. From Connectivity to City Diplomacy

Abstract

The emerging role of the so-called Info/City States –IS, dynamic cities or citystates, in promoting two different trends of theoretical and practical investigation, pushes for a reconsideration of the relationships among States, territories and people. From the inside that implies a combination of democracy and data through new governance tools; from the outside, a new conception of international relationships and diplomacy. Questioning the efforts for connectedness – stability and rule of law – and in connectivity to the rest of the world, some critical issues retrieve the human dimension of law based on local city diplomacy, in the scenarios of a global network society beyond the traditional State.
