Author Guidelines

Code of Ethics and Peer Review

The journal DPCE Online adheres to a code of ethics that complies with the international COPE guidelines.

Since its very first issues, DPCE Online has published editorial contributions selected following a specific evaluation procedure, tailored to their literary genre.

From issue no. 1-2015 onwards, following a major overhaul of the journal’s overall structure, the editorial review procedure was updated to bring it into line with the most rigorous international standards and codified in a specific set of regulations. In particular, it consists of two stages: the first, carried out by the editorial board, aims to assess the text’s alignment with the journal’s academic guidelines, whilst fully guaranteeing the ideological and methodological pluralism of the scientific community; the second involves a rigorous and formalised process of double-blind peer review.

With regard to the latter, in particular, submissions intended for the Essays and Cases and Issues sections are made completely anonymous so that their origin cannot be identified, and are submitted for assessment to two referees – selected by the Editorial Board, on the basis of expertise, from among professors in the relevant disciplinary field or related fields, drawn from a comprehensive list (updated every six months by the Editorial Board itself) – who are invited to express an opinion on a number of predetermined criteria (originality of the contributions; methodological soundness; consistency and clarity of the conclusions; adequacy of references to legislation, legal doctrine and case law; adequacy of citations), and to provide a summary assessment. Contributions to the Notes and Comments section, on the other hand, are subject to a simplified peer-review procedure, centred on the assessment by a single referee.

In all cases, the outcome of the peer review may result in full acceptance of the editorial proposal (a fully positive assessment), a negative assessment – precluding publication in the Journal – or a positive assessment subject to specific comments.

Where the assessment is negative or positive subject to comments, the assessment report is sent to the author of the submission, without revealing the identity of the referees. Where a positive outcome is subject to comments, the author is invited to revise the text as suggested by the reviewers; unless otherwise indicated by the reviewers, the final version of the text is then forwarded to the referees who made the comments for a final decision on publication.

Deadlines

The journal normally publishes four issues per year:

• No. 1, due out on 10 April
• No. 2, published on 10 July
• No. 3, published on 10 October
• No. 4, published on 10 January of the following year

In order to meet these deadlines, contributions submitted to the editorial office for each issue will be considered within the following timeframes:

• No. 1: 20 November of the year preceding the issue’s publication
• No. 2: 20 February
• No. 3: 10 May
• No. 4: 20 August

Case notes (period per issue)

• No. 1: September/October/November
• No. 2: December/January/February
• No. 3: March/April/May
• No. 4: June/July/August

Editorial notes

Strict adherence to the Guidelines for Authors is recommended. In particular, articles that do not meet the following formal criteria will not be considered:

1. Structure into paragraphs corresponding to the table of contents;
2. Abstract in English;
3. Completeness of citations (page numbers, authors, publishers, places of publication);
4. Compliance with the criteria for citing legal doctrine and case law.

Codice etico e referaggio 

La Rivista DPCE Online aderisce ad un codice etico rispettoso dei parametri internazionali  COPE. 

A partire dal n. 1-2015, in seguito a una importante opera di ripensamento dell’impianto complessivo della Rivista, la procedura di valutazione redazionale è stata aggiornata al fine di renderla conforme ai più rigorosi standard internazionali e codificata con apposito regolamento. In particolare, essa si articola in due fasi: la prima ad opera della direzione è finalizzata a vagliare la congruità del testo con gli indirizzi scientifici della Rivista, con piena garanzia del pluralismo ideologico e metodologico della comunità scientifica; la seconda si articola in un rigoroso e formalizzato procedimento di double-blind peer review.

Quanto a quest’ultima, in particolare, i contributi destinati alle sezioni Saggi e Casi e questioni, sono resi completamente anonimi affinché non sia possibile individuarne la provenienza, e sono sottoposti alla valutazione di due referee – individuati dalla Direzione, in base a un criterio di competenza, tra i professori del settore disciplinare o di settori affini, raccolti di un apposito ampio elenco (aggiornato semestralmente dalla Direzione stessa) – i quali sono invitati ad esprimere un giudizio in ordine ad alcuni criteri predeterminati (originalità dei contributi; correttezza del metodo; congruenza e chiarezza delle conclusioni; adeguatezza dei riferimenti normativi, dottrinali e giurisprudenziali; adeguatezza delle citazioni), e a formulare un giudizio sintetico. I contributi della sezione Note e commenti sono invece soggetti a una procedura di revisione scientifica semplificata, incentrata sulla valutazione di un solo referee.

In tutti i casi, l’esito del referaggio può comportare un’accettazione piena della proposta editoriale (giudizio pienamente positivo), un giudizio negativo – ostativo alla pubblicazione sulla Rivista – o un giudizio positivo subordinato a specifici rilievi.

Qualora contenga una valutazione negativa o positiva subordinata a rilievi, il report di valutazione è trasmesso all’Autore della proposta editoriale, senza che sia possibile individuare l’identità dei referee. Laddove l’esito positivo della valutazione sia subordinato a rilievi, l’Autore è invitato a rivedere il testo nel senso suggerito dai revisori; salva loro indicazione contraria, il testo nella sua versione finale è poi trasmesso ai referee autori dei rilievi per il giudizio finale sulla pubblicazione.

Scadenze 

La rivista pubblica ordinariamente 4 fascicoli all'anno:

• N° 1, in uscita il 10 aprile
• N° 2, in uscita il 10 luglio
• N° 3, in uscita il 10 ottobre
• N° 4, in uscita il 10 gennaio dell'anno successivo

Al fine di rispettare queste scadenze, per ciascun fascicolo vengono presi in considerazione i contributi sottoposto alla redazione nei seguenti termini:
