Abstract

Abstract: Different Times in “Intra-Party Democracy”: Diachronic Considerations Between Italy and Spain – The Italian Parliament approved the first law about some profiles of “intra-party democracy” only in February 2014, implementing the «democratic method» requested by Article 49 of the Constitution since 1948: before political parties had preferred not to set law rules about their organization and internal activity. In Spain the first law about parties came into effect in December 1978, few weeks before the Constitution (with its Articles 6 and 22) was approved; in 2002 and in subsequent years more demanding rules were adopted, concurring to create a stricter legal status for political parties. This contribution deals
with these different choices made in Italy and Spain: this comparison can help to reach a more complete view of their form of government.
