Abstract

The fall of the Chinese Empire and the annihilation of the deposed monarch – Although the Chinese empire had tried, between 1901 and 1911, to renew its political and legal institutions, including by resorting to foreign models, especially Japanese, this did not prevent the imperial crisis and the end of the Qing dynasty in 1912. Following the abdication, the fate of the monarch was very heavy both legally and economically, with the last emperor who, in order to live, carried out the work of gardener.
