Latin American Presidentialisms: critical scenarios and evolutionary perspectives – The pendulum of Latin American democracies still seems to swing between a pole of fragile consolidation and an autocratic involution. The causes must be sought in the constitutional and political-party structure, which favors the verticalization of the powers of the Executive, as well as in the challenges launched by populism. The frailty of representative systems, the continuing economic crisis, the reawakening of the issue of ethnic minorities, widespread corruption, the impact of migratory flows, are factors that make opaque the prospects of democratic consolidation and tendential convergence of the material constitution towards
the formal one.
