Abstract

The essay examines the role that the Mexican Constitution of 1917 has played in contemporary constitutionalism. In particular, the role of Mexican Constitution as a pioneer in the context of the achievements of social constitutionalism is highlighted. Despite being indebted to the structure and system developed by liberal constitutionalism of the nineteenth century, the Mexican Constitution stands as a reference model for a new cycle of Constitutions which, in the different continents and in the context of different waves of constitutional transitions, were inspired by principles of social constitutionalism
