Abstract

The Presidential Form of Government in the United States: the Effects of the Trump Presidency - The presidential form of government of the United States has undergone profound transformations in over two hundred years. The presidential character of the form of government is the effect of the rigid application of the principle of separation of powers, which avoided a bond of dependence of the Executive on the Legislative. However, the central role of the President in the current system of government can be considered as the result of institutional conflicts between the supreme constitutional Organs and the consequence of the changes that have taken place in the international scenario. The ‘presidentialization’ of the form of government has not encountered irreconcilable obstacles in the constitutional model outlined by the ‘Founding Fathers’, but it has recently suffered strong tensions due to the presence on the political-institutional scene of an atypical
President like Donald Trump, elected in 2016 and defeated by Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
