Methodological notes on Islands and Comparative studies

The research aims to provide some methodological notes for the comparative study of island regimes. Starting from considering an homogeneous geographic area, the paper focus on territorial organization of the European islands. They differ depending on the legal forms of the parent States, as for example unitary and regional States. The paper continues by examining islands of different areas of the world. It focuses on a common problem (autonomy, identity, mobility, ecc.) in order to explain how the functional method helps islands studies. Finally, the contribute analyses the relation between sources of law and insularity.
