The paper analyzes the evolution of the notion of cultural heritage from a comparative perspective and verifies the impact produced by the UNESCO Convention on intangible cultural heritage in 9 countries (Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Jordan, Cyprus, Spain, Burkina Faso, Korea, Japan). The research shows the Italian « backwardness » in the protection of such cultural expressions and highlights the close connection between intangible cultural heritages and fundamental human rights.
