The essay illustrates the supranational protection of fundamental rights in Mexico from a legal but also socio-political point of view, underlining the role of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the constitutionalisation of the American Convention on Human Rights but also of Non-Governmental Agencies in strengthening their protection. The second part summarises the case law on the “control de convencionalidad” and its contribution to the internationalisation of fundamental rights in Mexico.
