The paper analyses the evolution of the power’s relations in Russia since the final part of the Soviet regime. Starting with a hybrid system in which the tentative application of the separation of powers was combined with the traditional attitudes to the concentration of power in the hand of the supreme ruler, the analysis takes into consideration the different stages of evolution of the system of government in Russia. The final result of a continuous increase of the President’s role, be it in the governmental or federal relations or in the guarantee powers, led, especially after the 2020 constitutional reform and the invasion of Ukraine, to an openly authoritarian system.
