Abstract

Abstract: CEDAW: a forgotten charter? By way of introduction to the call for papers – This monographic section come to publication in correspondence to the 40th anniversary of the entry into force at international level of the Convention on the
Elimination of all Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW, 3 September 1981). The essays analyse many provisions of the CEDAW and wish to stimulate an even deeper analysis of it within the field of Italian and comparative constitutional law. Thanks to the work done by the CEDAW Committee, in the last forty years the CEDAW has overcome the criticism that followed its entry into force (affecting in part its effectiveness) and now it stands as an important reference point in the field of women's rights. Therefore, the CEDAW deserves to be re-discovered mostly in the present days when to one hand women's rights seems to be once again at the centre of the public debate but, to the other hand, we are still witnessing renewed forms of discrimination and violation of these same rights also into the European context.
