Abstract

This essay aims to analyse the most recent amendment to the People’s Republic of China’s Constitution, which has been approved by the National People’s Assembly of the PRC in March 2018. By examining the contents of the amended constitutional provisions and considering China’s current political context, I
intend to identify the institutional and political reasons of the changes, especially those which concern the removal of term limits for the PRC President, the constitutional recognition of the Chinese Communist Party and the introduction of the Supervision Commissions, in order to highlight how they could serve President Xi Jinping’s political purposes.
