Abstract

After thirty years of inactivity, the tool of the constructive no-confidence vote, that requires to indicate an alternative candidate for the government presidency, has experienced a new application momentum in Spain since the implosion of the imperfect two-party system. The no-confidence vote promoted by Vox, discussed and rejected in March 2023, which proposed to replace the government of Pedro Sánchez with one led by Ramón Tamames, deserves to be analyzed because it is symptomatic of an atypical use of the instrument, ahead of the December 2023 general election.
