The paper analyses the several problematic aspects that emerge from the use of AI in the economic and financial field. After having provided some essential coordinates to understand the most relevant characteristics of AI, the text highlights the problems related to the main uses of AI in the indicated fields, with specific attention to the risk of discriminatory choices and to the dangers more directly connected to the use of AI as an aid to strategic business decisions. Finally, these problems are put in relation to the proposal for a regulation on AI, put forward by the European Commission, also in order to test its adequacy.
