The discreet charm of the competition. Solidarity bonds and competitive pressure in the European integration process

Abstract

The economic and financial crisis, mainly in the EU area, profoundly impacted the perception of the role of the Union and the functioning of the institutions. The paper purports to affirm that a lack in solidarity among communities in Europe increases the weight of competition aspects, and that the European constitution itself has a competitive vocation. In order to do so it will analyze: the political integration through the internal market, the neutrality of the Central Bank, the prohibition on bail-out, the debts crisis. Finally, will be retraced the link between the competitive vocation and the resort to the intergovernmental method.
