The article aims at analyzing the recent developments in the ESDP domain, to make some considerations on the future of the European defense. After focusing on the ESDP tools aimed to promote the integration amongst the EU Member States, the analysis concentrates on the Strategic Compass and on its implementation “one year after”. On that basis, the article draws some conclusions on the European defence perspectives, bearing in mind that Article 42, para. 2, TEU provides for two objectives: firstly, the progressive framing of a common EU defence policy and, in the case, the subsequent creation of a common defence.
