Abstract

The essay deals with the most traditional service offered by the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication SC, which is taken into consideration in the perspective of its role as a market infrastructure and, more specifically, as a financial one. Such point of view seems useful both to understand the relevance of the service within the payment system and its implications for the real economy; and to explain why (and within which limits) the law can reconfigure that service as an economic weapon.
