Abstract

Abstract: Some Essential Features of the Constitutional Convention - This article elaborates on a few selected issues concerning the composition and functioning of the Chilean Constitutional Convention, starting from its background. First, it assesses the mechanisms put in place to achieve gender parity and ensure the presence of representatives of indigenous peoples. Second, it delves into the powers allotted to the Convention, trying to unveil the oxymoron under which it has been defined, either as a “completely free” body or as a “limited authority”.
