Abstract: The system to allocate seats in Chilean Constitutional Convention based on the popular vote – In November 2019, a majority of the political forces represented in the Chilean congress, under a context of high social pressure, opened process that may result in the adoption of a new constitution. This led to the celebration of a plebiscite that mandated the establishment of a Constitutional Convention. Later on, a series of directives were adopted for its integration and to broadly regulate its working methods. This article describes the nature of this constituent assembly, the electoral system through which seats will be assigned, and the provisions on independent candidacies, parity between men and women, reserved seats for indigenous peoples, and rules for people with disabilities.
