In the French legal system, the regulations governing the applications of Artificial Intelligence are multilayered. In the absence of dedicated constitutional provisions on AI, or even a specific law, the relevant regulations, accompanied by policies and guidelines, are found in various laws as well as in resolutions adopted by the competent national authorities. Interesting sectoral regulations contain provisions on Artificial Intelligence, such as those relating to the administration of justice, labor law, and regulations for major events, such as the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. The result is an approach that, while remaining fundamentally “human-centric”, is increasingly detailed at the legislative and administrative levels, in implementation of the European Union’s AI Act.
