This paper aims to analyse the Greenlandic insularity regime from the perspective of the island’s secessionist path from the Danish Realm. After briefly reconstructing the reasons, stages and characteristics of the autonomic status of the Arctic territory, it will be investigated the intercurrent link between the insular character of the territory and the viability for the latter of the independence hypothesis. The latter will be analysed according to a subjective dimension, namely linked to the identity and ethno-cultural aspects of the Greenlandic people, and an objective dimension, relating instead to the actual economic sustainability of the secessionist choice, to then see how these two dimensions relate to each other.
