are fundamental rights equally recognized to those living on an island? Insularity can configurate an effective, physical obstacle to the enjoyment od fundamental rights. Constitutional democracies ensure compliance with both formal and substantial equality principle and in such perspective specifical measures are introduced in order to guarantee equal access to fundamental rights. This article focuses on the role played by the model of State islands are referred to and the influence of the European Union in recognizing and making effective islanders’ fundamental rights.
