Il principio animalista nella Costituzione

The animalist principle in the Constitution

  • Daniele Granara

Abstract

The latest reform of Italian Constitution of 2022 added a third clause to Article 9, stating that the Republic will protect the environment, biodiversity, ecosystems and animals, in the interest of the future generations. The incorporation of the animalist principle in the Constitution represents a significant shift towards a biocentric perspective, directing human focus towards a holistic view of the environment, rather than an anthropocentric one. This symbiotic relationship between human beings and nature is the foundation for environmental protection; the reform carries immense legal and cultural implications, and represents an unprecedented level of change as it ensures a sense of shared purpose and collective destiny for present and future generations.
