Tutela ambientale e sostenibilità dei sistemi alimentari. Una comparazione tra possibili soluzioni normative

Environmental protection and sustainability of food systems. A comparison of possible regulatory solutions

  • Simone Pitto

Abstract

Sustainability is one of the essential conditions to be realized in order to guarantee the right to adequate food according to the Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights of the United Nations. Alongside the connection on the ground of the individual rights, the link between food and sustainability today assumes a central role in the framework of the public policies related to climate change, also considering that food systems are broadly responsible for greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, it will be necessary to adapt the global food system to the new contemporary challenges by balancing the need to meet the growing demand of food of an increased population with the guarantee of sustainable processes of production. National and supranational decision makers are required to act accordingly although a broad variety of legal solutions may be appreciated among the different legal systems.
