This article presents the key features of the statute of limitations in Greek criminal law – with a focus on the legal nature of the institution and the specific rules that govern the limitation period, including its commencement and suspension. On this basis, it also addresses the question of whether recent choices of the Greek legislator related, whether directly or indirectly, to the statute of limitations or similar institutions coupled with the Greek reality manage to strike a balance between the interests of the State, the victim and the offender.
