Abstract

Democracy and market order in times of coronavirus. The Court of Karlsruhe and the one-sided defence of neoliberalism – The German constitutional court condemned the current Quantitative easing programme of the European central bank for being possibly disproportionate in its economic policy effects, and above all for violating the prohibition of any kind of credit facility in favour of Member States. The Court’s declared aim is to protect the democratic prerogatives of the German people, but its real intention is to preserve and develop the neoliberal inspiration of the European Union.
