Abstract

The essay analyses the Spanish reform introduced by Law No. 17/2021 by which the legal regime for animals was redefined. The aim is to bring out - in a comparative key with reference to the French and Italian experiences - the peculiarity of the Spanish legislator’s approach to the animal issue. The regulatory intervention in its significant scope marks a significant change of step in the field of animal rights and fuels the decades-long debate on the subject of new juridical subjectivities and natural rights with further critical points, prompting reflection on the necessary review of legal categories that are now obsolete.
