The end of the Ducato di Modena e Reggio – The Ducato di Modena e Reggio, despite being an absolute state, was distinguished by a rational institutional and administrative organization as well as by a constant tension towards economic and social development, which found in the legal regulation, both public and private, its stable and adequate framework. Significant public works were built (such as Via Vandelli and the Boario) and the architectural decorum of the cities, the development of the arts, sciences, literature and culture in general were encouraged, creating an exceptionally advanced state for the time, more than the Regno di Sardegna, under whose legislation the Italian unification took place.
