L’indipendenza del Messico e il contrastato rapporto con gli Stati Uniti d’America. Influenze costituzionali e contrasti geopolitici
The independence of Mexico and the tense relationship with the United States of America. Constitutional influences and geopolitical contrasts
Abstract
This paper, after highlighting the characteristics of Ibero-American constitutionalism in the independence period, delves into the difficult coexistence between the Spanish tradition and the constitutional influence of the former North American colonies. It then highlights how plans for supranational union among the former Spanish colonies foundered in the face of the North American doctrine of "Manifest Destiny.”
Keywords: independence of Mexico; Latin American constitutionalism; Influence North American legal thought; U.S.-Mexico war; Monroe doctrine
