insularity – military security – human security - stabilityAbstract
This study presents first reflections, in a comparative perspective, on the relationship between insularity and security. The article, by analysing specific experiences, offers an overview of the types of issues that may emerge when considering the binomial insularity-security. Therefore, starting from the analysis of the case of the Sardinia Region, we will proceed to analyse this binomial in relation to the Pacific Islands and, finally, to the Aland Islands. These experiences, extremely different from each other, will allow to highlight the evolution from a typically military approach to the issue of security towards an approach focused on the human factor and on development as a determining element for peace and stability.
