The aim of this paper is to highlight the inevitable impact on the environment of the textile sector, which is currently the second most polluting sector in the world. As a matter of fact, the production of clothing, footwear and textile products (including the ones for home) is one of the main causes of water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and overcrowding in landfills. In order to address this issue, the European Union has sought to accelerate the transition to a circular economy, as an alternative to the current linear model. Namely, to make a decisive contribution to the 2050 climate neutrality goal, EU aims to develop a model of production and consumption that involves sharing, lending and maximizing the re-use and recycling of existing materials and products. With this in mind, in March 2020, the Commission adopted a new action plan that includes an EU strategy for textiles, to stimulate innovation and promote the re-use of products. This paper aims to deepen all these aspects, examining in the final part the recent trend of great designers - among the many, especially Levis - to invest in new ways of production, starting from the presence of a vademecum on the label of the products in order to support the choices of the consumer.
