President Trump's decision to remove Lisa Cook, a member of the Board of the U.S. Central Bank, has sparked litigation that has finally reached the Supreme Court. The same dispute raises, in addition to the question of the initiative's compatibility with the principle of Central Bank Independence, the more general question of the impact of the Trump presidency on the relationship between the Federal Administration's political leadership itself and independent administrative authorities (such as the FED). From this perspective, the President's continuous attempt to extend the scope and discretion of the power to remove the heads of independent administrations such as the FED, poses delicate issues in terms of respecting the fundamental principle of rule of law, as it is capable of threatening the very structure of government based on the separation of powers, following the constant expansion of executive power.
