In 2024 Australia has registered more than a million of international students. Over the past twenty years progressive cuts to federal funding and higher education policies have caused Australian universities to become dependent on the substantial financial contributions generated by internationalization. This article analyses the consequences of this system for academic freedom among australian university professors, focusing on the key reforms in higher education and migration policy and their failure to adequately protect this freedom.
