Abstract

The immigration issue took center stage in American politics when Joe Biden ran for the White House in the 2020 election against outgoing Republican President Donald Trump. During his campaign, President Biden had pledged to end the Trump administration’s draconian policies by building a fairer immigration system. From the outset, presidential measures have been aimed at dismantling Trump’s legacy. In the campaign for the November 2024 election of the new president, the issue has returned to fuel the heated debate between vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris. This article analyses the Biden administration’s immigration policies after almost four years in office.
