Religious freedom in Albania before and after the 1925 constitution. The role of the clergy in the formation and consolidation of the institutions – Albania represents a significant experience for understanding the development and relevance of religious freedom, having had the misfortune throughout its history to violently transition from institutional, legal, and political systems of great importance to religion to systems of total denial and prohibition of it. The aim of this paper is to investigate how religious freedom was regulated by the 1925 Constitution, with particular attention to the situation prior to its approval and the subsequent period. A peculiarity of Albanian institutional history concerns the role the clergy played in political and legal institutions during crucial moments in the birth and consolidation of the Albanian State.
