Abstract: The essay aims to put in evidence the evolution of the de Gaulle idea of French constitutionalism and of Presidential institution in the Fifth Republic, which put at the core of the Constitutional architecture the President of the Republic (a kind of “monarch” within the Republican institutions). Starting from this point of view, we have tested the stability of this idea of the French institutions as originally foreseen by the Constitution of the Fifth Republic, according to the different interpretations of their role given by the presidents that followed to General de Gaulle, coming to the idea of the presidential role given by the newly elected Emmanuel Macron in the first three months of his term, also in relation to the political context emerged from the presidential and general elections. .
Keywords: President of the Republic; Fifth Republic; French constitutionalism: Political
context; Presidential and General Elections.
