On December 4, 2024, the resolution 79/122 of the United Nations General Assembly convened an Intergovernmental Conference to be held in New York for three consecutive weeks both in 2028 and 2029. The purpose of the Conference will be to elaborate a legally binding instrument on the prevention and prosecution of the crimes against humanity. If adopted, the UN Convention to prevent and punish crimes against humanity would be a landmark development in the field of international criminal law because it would promote development and harmonization of national legal systems and strengthen international police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters among competent authorities.
