The article focuses on the evolution of the protection of women’s rights in Morocco. Firstly, the analysis aims at offering an overview of the condition of the woman in the Islamic law, underlying the different approach to the issue between the Western legal tradition and the Islamic one. Then the focus is on the Moroccan experience, with the introduction of the Moudawana, that considers the woman in the society not only as a wife and mother but as a subject holder of actionable rights. Finally, a comparison is drawn between the Moroccan experience and the ones of neighbouring countries such as Egypt and Tunisia.
