Abstract: When the Constitution becomes memory. Why are the Chilean streets asking for a new Constitution? – To understand how economic claims led to a new Constituent Assembly, we must remember that Chile has never changed its constitutional system since the Pinochet era. The violent protests that erupted across Chile hide open wounds with deep roots in a memory process that never ended. Therefore, to settle accounts with the past, a new constitution is needed since constitutions are a formidable memorial tool to build any society's core essence.
