The genesis and the first interpretations of Monroe doctrine: from 1823 to the beginning of XX century
Abstract
The essay aims at highlighting the principles of the so-called Monroe Doctrine, which has been introduced in the annual message, presented to Congress by President James Monroe, in december 1823. The author analyzes the inception of the Monroe’s message about the foreign relations of the United States and its changing meaning during and beyond the Nineteenth century (from a declaration, related to a contingent issues to a very real essence of the United States’ political and national identity).
