Abstract

The essay analyzes the macro-issue of illiberal democracies in the specific Latin-American legal and geo-political context through a complex dimension that allows to connect different and emblematic challenges that liberal-democratic systems are facing today. On the one hand, there is the recognition of the subject “Nature” and the progressive change of the liberal constitutional structure determined by the inclusion of this value; on the other hand, there is the “ecocentric cosmovision” of indigenous peoples that supports an alternative lifestyle to Western models of sustainable development (eco-ethnodevelopment).
