The paper analyzes the language as factor of civil and politic integration before and after Italian Unification. The official national language of Italy is Italian, even if it is not explicitly expressed in the Constitution. It further examines the fascist language policy that prohibited the dialects. Finally, it assesses some frameworks of the Italian language policy.
