The bilateral economic agreement system. An asymmetric model to be followed by other autonomous communities in Spain? - This paper aims to delve into the existing legal relations between the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country and the Spanish State, taking into account the Basque self-government, as well as the Basque Economic Agreement, one of the fundamental pillars of the Basque institutional system. Different voices, as well as different leaders of the Autonomous Communities, are questioning the Basque self-government, questioning the suitability of the Economic Agreement system with the existing autonomic financing in the rest of the State. Likewise, the participation, the protagonism and the collaboration of some Autonomous Communities in the central Government's decision making is being questioned to the detriment of other Autonomous Communities. Therefore, the aim is to analyse the scope of the Economic Agreement system and the bilateral relations between the different parties in order to see if it is a model to be followed by other Autonomous Communities and to see if the existing bilateral relations between the Spanish State and the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country can be extrapolated to other regions, making the current asymmetrical State more asymmetrical or not.
