Lula’s case: the trial and political scenarios
Abstract
stages of the trial and the political situation of Lula da Silva. Condemned both in the first and second instance, at present he is in prison where he is serving a 12-year and 1 month sentence for the crimes of passive corruption and money laundering in the Triplex case, a branch of the wider anti-corruption investigation known as “Lava Jato Operation” (the Brazilian version of the Italian “Clean Hands”/“Mani pulite” investigation). At the moment, such sentence makes unfeasible – according to the provisions of Complementary Law no. 135/2010 – Lula’s candidature for the presidential election scheduled for next October 7th.
